The scene begins at night. Utena follows Anthy after she leaves the dorms, up to the dueling grounds. Utena accuses Anthy of taking Touga away from her (in an earlier scene, Touga and Anthy were flirting shamelessly.) Utena cries bitterly that they would always look at the stars together, but now Touga was gone, and it was Anthy's fault.
After letting out her anger, Utena collapses and lies on the floor. Anthy pats her gently for a moment before picking up an axe and smashing it into a pipeline. The lights on the platform instantly go out as water sprays everywhere, filling the floor.
Utena slowly pushes herself up, looking down at the roses that are floating. There, she sees the starry sky reflected on the ground. In surprise, she spins around and looks upwards, where the starry sky twinkles and spins brightly.
Slowly, she looks across the dueling grounds to find the cause of such a situation...
Behind Anthy, water from the broken pipe splashes out in an arc of spray. Her hair flutters gently, and she smiles at Utena, who says softly, "Himemiya..."
Roses drift across the grounds. In the watery reflection, Utena is wearing her dueling outfit. Her hair suddenly falls down to its wavy length.
More roses part to show Anthy's reflection. Her Rose Bride dress fall down in the same manner as Utena's hair. The first strains of Toki ni Ai wa begin to play. (It should be noted that the entire scene to this point is almost entirely silent except for the sound of rushing water and Utena's voice.)
