Well, as you know by now the rights to the Utena movie have been picked up for US release by Central Park Media. They plan to release a DVD and a VHS version, which means all us US fans will soon be able to own a DVD version for reasonable cost! (The price of import DVD's range but the prices I've seen for the Utena movie are in the ballpark of a whopping $75 - without shipping!) I must say I can't wait, because my fansub copy is wearing out already and because I'm pretty hyped about the anime DVD market in general.
I was sent a viewer's image of what the Utena movie DVD cover might look like, and that got me thinking. After some refinement of the idea, I present to you Bara no Unmei's first contest!
* Design an Utena movie DVD cover! *
Yup! What do YOU think the North American Utena movie DVD cover should look like? Get on your creative thinking caps and start working!
The rules are simple. Design a cover. The dimensions should be proportional to the normal DVD covers, not CD cover size. (5.25 inches wide by 7.25 inches tall, the spine being .5 inches wide.) You should create a front, back, and spine for completion's sake. Photoshop, Paint Shop Pro, Illustator, MS Paint, whatever art program you like, use. For this contest (and this contest only) you may use any of the images from the image gallery (although you may want to crop out the ugly red frames from the screencaps, heh...) If you need an image that has a 'Bara no Unmei' watermark covering a portion, please email me and I can send you the original image. The exception is that you may NOT use any of the wallpapers.
Don't have a good art program? Think your artistic stills stink? That's okay, you can still submit a text description of what you think the cover should look like. The more specific, the better. Describe which images you'll want (ie who, from what scene, in what pose) so everyone else can visualize the cover you like.
Submissions:
The submission period is over. Please do not send any more submissions.
If you are submitting an image, please send a .jpeg file or .gif file ONLY. If possible, upload the image somewhere and email me with the link, because Hotmail ocassionally acts up with attachments. If you don't have webspace to store it, email me with information of file size and file format, and I'll find a way for you to send it in. Text submissions are easy, just email me with it. Please send all emails and inquiries to xxxxxxx with the subject as "Utena Contest".
Deadline, Judging, Prizes:
The deadline is past. By sending in your entry you agree to allow me to post it on this site for everyone to see. I will be the main judge, there may be a second judge but details are still being worked on at the moment ^_^. I'll look at creativity, artistic ability, and just how goshdarn cool your cover design is, as well as how well it represents the Utena movie and if I think the cover will sell ^_^.
The winner will receive a wallpaper or winamp skin of his or her choice. I will email the winner and work out all the details. This wallpaper or winamp skin will not be made public (well, okay, maybe a small thumbnail) unless the winner chooses to post the wallpaper or winamp skin somewhere else. I'm sorry I can't offer a real prize, but I'm just a poor widdle college student with a limited budget, and besides, this is all just for fun! I have no affiliations with CPM or Software Sculptors anyway.
