Slayers FUSHIGIobligatory ramblingWelcome to Slayers FUSHIGI, an extremely long and large fanfic undertaking that I've been working on. Every good fanfic requires some explaining, and even if they don't, there are some things I wanted to point out, mention, and whatever. First off, how often is this page updated? It's updated whenever I finish the next part of Slayers FUSHIGI, gosh darnit! This could be anywhere from four days (my fastest) to a month (my slowest). Checking here periodically should reap something new. I post messages of updates to both FYfan and slayersfanfiction mailing lists (both can be found at Egroups.com. Work goes whenever I can fit it in. Hey, I'm a college student, so times can be tight. Anyways, the process goes something like this. I don't do much preplanning. I get a basic idea in my head and plot it out in my head, usually before I fall asleep. Then I sit down and write. Actually, I type it in the word processor, but let's not get sticky on details. I limit each episode to four pages. This makes sure that each episode is of similar length. The only exceptions are episode 1 (the last few paragraphs spilled onto the next page) and Episode 3 (almost exactly 3 pages, if I added anything else it would have made 4.) If it's too long, I chop it off and work it into the next episode. If it's too short, I put in some nice fluffy filler (this ensures I balance the comedy with the serious plot development.) I usually come up with the title after I finish the episode, since it's easier to make a title when you know what's happening (and I never know until I sit down to write/type/whatever!) And yes, that's how I write Slayers FUSHIGI. You might be wondering where in the Slayers timeline this runs. Well, I had the same question, so I thought about it for a while. I ended up placing it during the first season, after Lina and Gourry part ways with Zelgadis for the first time. (After Lina defeats Shaburanigdo.) At this point, Lina and Gourry head off to Saillune, so who says they can't run into more adventures along the way? The next episode of Slayers starts with them already near Saillune, but there isn't mention of how much time has passed. So what's Xelloss doing here if it's not NEXT or TRY? ...Sore wa himitsu desu. ^_~ You'll find out soon enough (or maybe later, depending on how long this takes.) This made a strange error in episode 1 when Lina calculates how long it's been since she's seen Naga, this has been changed. Note: This time placement will be crucial in the later episodes of Slayers FUSHIGI! Why? ...Sore wa himitsu desu. I don't want to spoil the ending for you now, would I? Future plans for Slayers FUSHIGI? Well, it's going to be a long ride, folks! 100 pages in MS Word and no end in sight! Well, not exactly. I know exactly how I want it to end, but all the stuff in between has yet to be put down on paper! Eventually this will follow the Fushigi Yuugi plot to its end, although I'm putting Tenkou in with Nakago, which means some of the material from the 2nd OAV will also be a part of the story. And I promise that Xelloss will play a (surprise?) role at the very end, in the last episode and/or epilogue (depending on what I feel like when I get there.) How long will this take? As long as it has to! As the story progresses, characters come in, interact, and develop. I try to keep each character true to their respective canons but a lot of things start to snowball and change. The same is true with the story line. At first it went quite like the FY timeline, but little deviances have grown into new plot lines never originally in FY. That's one of the best parts about writing a story - seeing how it develops into something totally unexpected. (Although writing Lina as the heroine is also a great part about writing this fanfic, since she's a lot more competent than Miaka, and I can do a lot more with Lina than I could with Miaka.) A note on the webpage design: All graphics designed by me, feathers, logos, and all. These pages done up with Notepad/Wordpad, Please, if you want to use either the feathers or the design, email me! This page is best viewed in Explorer 5.0 (what I have on my computer) or at least IE 4.0 in high/true color, on an 600x800 resolution. Netscape has some problems rendering all of the CSS properly, although it's certainly doable, and it's readable without CSS. If anyone knows why Netscape makes the box extend past the right edge of the screen or why the text runs off the bottom, please email me. And so, without further ado, let's get on with the fanfic!
