Shirahimesyo [CLAMP] Keywords: Shoujo, romance, Japanese legend/myth Warnings: None Volumes: 1 Publisher: Kobunsha Comics ISBN (Not the Asuka Reprint version): Volume 1: Note: This series has a US release by TokyoPop. Overview: Unlike most CLAMP stories, this has artwork done with brushes, not pens, so the lines are much thicker and richer and the greys are not done with tones but with varying shades of ink, and include gorgeously watercolored front pages. There are 3 short stories based on the Japanese legend of Shirahime, the Goddess of Snow, and begins with a middle-aged man meeting a beautiful young woman in the snow. It starts to snow and the man says that falling snow is the tears of Shirahime. It then proceeds into three separate stories that are all sweet but tragic (in typical CLAMP fashion.) However, unlike CLAMP fashion they don't drag out each story but tell it in a succint but satisfying matter and end it definitively. Personal View: One of my favorite CLAMP titles, Shirahimesyo is simple, with a different but wonderful artwork style (along the lines of the RG Veda and Rayearth style in watercolors) that really matches the tone of the Japanese legend. With just one volume, it's eminently collectible, especially now that there is a reprint in Japan and an English volume due out by TokyoPop. The stories are dreadfully romantic, and since it's CLAMP, often with plenty of angst, but they aren't dragged out and there is a sense of completeness in the volume.
