about [information about this site]

I love manga.

And I want to share the love.

And thus, this site took form.

I decided to take a page from the books of others (like Emi-chan of niko-niko.net and Ryuuen of Ryuuen and make a manga summaries page of the series I really liked, or those I felt deserved more attention, or those that fell under the radar of most folk. A lot of this stuff is pretty obscure, and it's doubtful that numerous manga I own will ever be translated and published in English. There are some notable exceptions, but for the most part, I wanted to put up information on lesser-known series to introduce new fans to the stories and characters I love the best. For the most part, these are shoujo series, although again, there are some exceptions.

This isn't my only manga page. I help run Leafunia with my friend Kero-chan, devoted to the shoujo series Pretear, which, when we got into the story, was available in manga only, and not well known. I also run Nothing, a site about my favorite mangaka, Tachibana Kaim (most well known for Shinesman, as it's the only story of hers that has been animated) as well as Curse A La Mode, a site about the delightful shoujo comedy, Fun Fun Factory. I love making and running websites. And I love manga. That the two should merge isn't a question, it's more a question of why I haven't made more manga websites. (But I should finish the ones I've started first!)

Ming-Ling:

I've been reading manga since 1998, when I first picked up a few volumes of Fushigi Yuugi. At the time, the 2nd OVA wasn't available yet (they were still being fansubbed on tape!) so I started with the second major story arc. It just steamrolled from there. I did end up deciding (after taking forever to get all 18 volumes of FY) not to collect series with more than 10 volumes; the only time this was broken was when I started collecting Card Captor Sakura, since at the time there were only 9 books. Otherwise I've stuck to it pretty well, although a few series I like are getting pretty close to the 10 book mark...

I've been making websites for even longer then I've been interested in anime and manga, moving from geocities to a friend's private server (still there, too, at limitless.org) and finally onto my own domain name. I like graphic design, so any excuse to exercise the knowledge is welcome.

Site Logistics:

Version 1.0 was black, white and gray and didn't feature anyone. The layout was done entirely with tables and CSS and was really simple. This is version 2.0 of the site. It was designed in Adobe Photoshop 6.0 and the html was written in notepad. This time theh layout features Alen Koyasu from Shinesman. Why I chose him was because... I had the scan on my hard drive? Oh well. Since this is a manga page, I left the colors as greyscale.
