Suzaku no Neko
Prologue
Written 1/00 by Ming-Ling.
Suzakuseikun had a headache.
Now, Suzakuseikun was a god, and a mighty powerful god at that, so for Suzakuseikun to get a headache meant things had to be bad indeed. Either that or he had forgotten where he had put the Motrin, but he was a god, and gods don't forget things like that.
Therefore, by deduction, something big was troubling the protecting god of Southern Konan.
Several red feathers drifted off of his wing in his frustrations. He was watching the events progressing in his country, and things Were Not Well. (But you knew that already, didn't you?) First, his Miko was getting into all sorts of troubles and bumbling her way trying to find his Shichi Seishi while Kutou was soundly thrashing them.
A word of advice: Never mention the other three gods to the god you're talking to. It just makes them angry. Suzakuseikun fumed at what his brother-god, Seiryuuseikun, was doing. His country was attacking Konan! And he was succeeding! The Kutou Shichi Seishi were stronger and the Miko was more focused, and they were going to win!
A second word of advice: Never anger a god of fire. For angry Suzakuseikun was, and the air around him burst into flame. Being in Godspace[tm] meant there was nothing available for him to destroy, but that certainly wasn't helping his temper any.
Seiryuuseikun was winning! He was going to win unless...
...unless Suzakuseikun could do something about it.
Let's face the facts here. The phoenix god certainly wasn't helping his cause any by fuming away in godspace while the pushy dragon god decided to play dirty. But how could he help his Miko and his Shichi Seishi? They were so clumsy, so inept, so...!
Seems to me like they could use some divine inspiration, Suzakuseikun thought frustratedly to himself.
A light flashed over Suzakuseikun's head. Being a god meant he could occasionally indulge in such stock gags without penalty. But it was true. He had a plan!
Perhaps not just divine inspiration, but divine intervention was needed. Now, he couldn't make himself too obvious. His Miko and Shichi Seishi had to do the bulk of the work. But if he could just somehow help them, prod them a certain way, so they would do the right thing and be victorious...
The phoenix god turned his gaze back to Konan, watching his Miko trying to find the other Shichi Seishi. Then his eyes fell on Mitsukake, a Shichi Seishi whom the Miko had yet to discover. And there, he saw a small, white, unassuming cat.
Perfect. After all, cats were clever. As the cat, he could move about freely with his Miko and Shichi Seishi, and drop hints and clues. And then, in the end, he would triumph.
And he could lord it over his dear brother-god, Seiryuuseikun, for many years afterward.
Delightful! With that, Suzakuseikun filtered some of his consciousness down to the cat...
Mitsukake blinked as his white cat suddenly sat straight up on his haunches and stared straight forward.
"Neko-chan, what's wrong? Are you alright?"
The cat shook himself thoroughly, twitched his whiskers, and looked up at the healer. He meowed, to tell him everything was alright, then started cleaning his right forepaw.
Mitsukake scratched his head, then shrugged. With that, he headed into town to go buy some food.
Within the cat, Suzakuseikun smiled. Things would be going his way, now.
to be continued...
Author's notes: So, the rest of the story should be told from Tama-Neko/Suzakuseikun's point of view, which should be rather interesting. This part takes place right before Miaka et all arrive in Choukou and meet up with Shouka. Otherwise, it's a canon FY fanfic. And this explains why Tama-Neko is so smart, doesn't it? A little divine intervention... ^_~
