Hi. I'm Ming-Ling. Well, at least that's my name online. I got interested in anime a few years ago when Sailor Moon started playing on the local T.V. Station. For a while that was all the anime I knew. Then my friend Jani-chan got me hooked. She showed me other series like Mamono Hunter Yohko, and we would also rent movies from Blockbuster, like Demon City Shinjuku. Then came 'Slayers', 'Koko wa Greenwood', 'Sohryuuden', 'Evangelion', and more... During the summer of 1998, after hearing plenty of people online plugging Fushigi Yuugi, I asked Angie [my friend from whom I get some anime] for Fushigi Yuugi. Jani-chan and I watched all 52 episodes and the first OVA series straight...well...almost. Actually it took us about four days with times in between, which left both of us screaming at cliffhangers...there were sleepovers and marathons. We were instantly hooked. It was really hard to have to stop the tape and do other stuff. Then Jani-chan and I went to The Beaman Company for the monthly B.A.A.S (Bay Area Animation Society) anime social. It was October 30, Cosplay for Sailor Moon Night. Jani-Chan and I went as Miaka and Yui, using the uniforms from the first (and nonsequential, but who cares) OVA series. [I was Yui. I even had the single earring stud.] But there was also a very darling Nyan-Nyan, the daughter of the ever-awesome Jill-chan, so all was well. ^_^ ) And then other Fushigi Yuugi fans at the social stopped and talked with us about Fushigi Yuugi (among other things) and plugged the FYML (Fushigi Yuugi Mailing List). And so we joined the FYML. I'm Tama-Neko-Chan (Ming-Ling) on the FYML, and (official) keeper of Tama-Neko's fish. ^_^ ) Currently my FY obsession includes one poster I got as a gift, plenty of prism sticker cards you get from the fun and cool sticker machine, a deck of playing cards, a golden fan/tessen that was originally part of a necklace I got when I was, like, 8 or something, almost a whole set of the manga (in Chinese), and tapes of the music from the CD and music we taped from the TV itself, as well as the original soundtrack CD, Character Vocals, Seiryuu Counter-attack CD, and the Second OVA Best Vocal Collection. [sweatdrop] I also like lots of other anime. My current favorites are Rurouni Kenshin, Slayers, Cowboy Bebop, Fushigi Yuugi, but I'm into quite a bit of shojou anime, like CLAMP's work, Kodomo no Omocha, Kare Kano, etc. I'm in the UCLA Anime Club as well... even submitted some of my fanart! Doodling and sketching random anime pictures is a hobby of mine, was evidenced by my high school work. You'll find names of the various gods and their symbols, various faces, Sailor Mercury signs, and such-like all over them. And my dorm room is plastered with my drawings. They give it... um, character. Yeah, that's it. I also loooove to write fanfics. Currently I'm working on one called The Xel Files, which is a Slayers fic set in modern times. If you're wondering what happened to Slayers FUSHIGI, my Slayers/FY crossover, I finished it! Haha! I CAN finish things if I have the inspiration, motivation, or just too much damn time on my hands. I do too many things. I know. And I'm in college at UCLA, too… Too much anime, too little time... Of course, I have other, non-anime activities. (I'm not that one sided...) I really like doing web design, and I use Neko.Net to try out new things and see what they like. If you look at the update page, nearly every single update starts with, "And I changed the layout again..." (not anymore! I'm keeping this layout! Haha! ..I think..) I find it very rewarding and interesting. Computer graphics is also a fun hobby of mine, which should be evident by looking at these page... ^_^ I also am involved with several MUCK's, mostly of Nameless MUCK and Redwall MUCK, which are online real-time RPG games. I read fantasy with a passion, and sometimes a bit of science fiction, and occasionally I'll enjoy an Asian(-American) book, like The Joy Luck Club or Baba. (Comes from being Chinese...) Of course, hanging out with friends is always a fun thing to do, too! (Especially we watch anime! Heh...) Anyways, you can find my main page at http://members.limitless.org/~mingling/. This page gives a better overall impression of who I am. |
